The Loyola Marymount University Lions women’s swimming team hosted the University of San Diego on Saturday afternoon at Burns Recreation Center for their first home meet of the 2019-20 season. Senior Lanna Kozlowski was the standout for the Lions winning both the 1000 freestyle and 500 freestyle distance events by several body lengths over the closest USD competitor. Kozlowski’s times of 10:46.43 in the 1000 and 5:15.28 in the 500 were both season best times.
Freshman Kelli Andrade also scored a victory for the Lions in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:07.80, improving her season best time by a full second. She also battled two USD swimmers in the 200 breaststroke, finishing a close third in 2:27.65, also a season best.
USD won the 14-event dual meet 156-97 with their overall depth, but the Lions swam well scoring many top five finishes in season best times. Freshman Mikayla Tseng had an outstanding day, placing second in the 100 fly in 59.56 and third in both the 200 free (1:58.72) and 100 free (55.45), all season best times.
Senior Olivia Nielsen recorded season best times in the butterfly events nabbing third place finishes in both the 100 and 200 events. Junior Audrey Hixon scored in both backstroke races placing fourth in the 100 and third in the 200 while freshman Sarah Lu took the fifth spot in the 200.
Junior Serena Myatt placed fifth in both sprint freestyle races as did sophomore Lydia Zicker in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events and junior Taylor Pajunen in the 100 and 200 butterfly events. Senior Christine Chan (200IM) and junior Alexis DeBever (500 freestyle) each added a point to the Lion’s team score by placing fifth in their top events.
The Lions next travel to Pepperdine on Friday afternoon for a 5:00pm dual meet against the Waves.
