ALLENDALE, Mich. – After a quick turnaround in racing, the men’s swim & dive team swam hard in a dual against Grand Valley State at Allendale, Mich. on Saturday. GVSU would win 161-64.

Junior Danny Larson led the Panthers on the day with a win in a tight 100 free race with a time of 49.01. Larson also grabbed a top finish in the 200 free (1:45.44) to take second, while senior teammate Jacob Fase would touch the wall shortly after with a time of 1:45.75 to grab third.

Fase also swam the 100 breast for the second day in a row. The senior’s time of 59.58 would be good for second.

Senior Patrick Kelley raced to two top finishes for the day. Kelley first swam the 100 IM (54.11) to a third-place finish and then the 100 fly (52.82) to a second-place finish.

Senior Bailey Bodart sprinted his way in the 50 free to a time of 22.01 to take second, while senior Dane Van Allen raced the 1000 free (10:08.90) to finish third.

Panthers from the boards also had top finishes. Freshman Jared Kleczka grabbed a second-place finish on the one-meter with a score of 269.77. Junior Spencer Peronto scored 231.53 to take third on the three-meter.

MKE went 2-3 in the 200 medley relay. The relay of John Ruan, Jonathan Kollen, Ryan Hakes, and Bodart (1:27.52) finished in second-place which was just ahead of the Panther relay of Conrad Farrell, Larson, Mason Schoof, and Van Allen (1:29.36).

“Our first back-to-back meet is in the book and there is plenty for us to learn and work on,” head coach Kyle Clements said, “our attitude was great today, but we were lacking some energy in the swims. Our season is just beginning, but we have months of work to do to be able to perform at a high level in back-to-back days.”

The women’s swim & dive team capped off the weekend winning four events in a dual against Grand Valley State at Allendale, Mich. on Saturday. GVSU would win 151-92, but the Panthers still lead the all-time series against the Lakers, 7-2.

The young Panthers of freshmen Molly Meland and McKenzie Sanchez led the way for the Panthers.

Meland went two-for-two on her individual events. The freshman would touch the wall first in the 100 IM with a time of 1:00.84. Shortly after, Meland swam the 100 fly in 57.51 to also win the event.

Sanchez topped her big performance yesterday with another win on the one-meter with a score of 284.18. With this score, Sanchez is now fifth on the Panther top-10 list.

Sophomore freestyle trio of Giulia Guerra-Montes, Bella Passamani, and Cassandra Hutchins each grabbed top finishes in their respective events. Guerra-Montes swam the 1000 free to a second-place finish (10:56.67) while Passamani came in third-place in the 200 free (1:58.96). Hutchins threw down a time of 55.78 in the 100 free, which was good enough for third place.

Freshman Riley Melendy led the Panthers in the 100 back to come in second with a time of 1:01.05, while freshman teammate Hannah Pozezinski touched the wall shortly after to take third (1:01.23).

Freshmen Natalie Sepic swam the 500 free (5:21.08) for a top-three finish, while fellow freshman Kelen McDaniels swam the 50 free (25.08) with a second-place finish.

Sophomore Andrea Bellart showed her strength in the breaststroke (1:08.67) to grab a third place finish.

The 200 free relay of Hutchins, McDaniels, Natalie Hey, and Meegan Snyman capped off the night with a first-place finish (1:40.22).

The Panthers will resume action just up the road on Saturday, Oct. 19, for the All-Wisconsin Showcase at Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer, Wis. Racing is set to begin at 1 p.m.

Grand Valley State swept Milwaukee in men’s and women’s swimming and diving Saturday at the GVSU Pool. The Laker men claimed a 161-64 victory over the Panthers, while the GVSU women defeated Milwaukee 151-92.

Men
200 medley relay – The Lakers went 1-2 with Harry Shalamon, Ahmed Nabih, Oscar Saura Armengol and David Turner touching first in a time of 1:36.35, followed by Noah Ellis, Evan Dies, Dzmitry Novikau and Owen Ganzer touching second in 1:36.66.

1000 Free – Jesse Goodyear hit the wall first in 9:33.76, followed by Moritz Bartels in second (9:40.26).

200 Free – Keegan Hawkins hit the wall first in 1:44.82.

50 Free – Dzmitry Novikau touches first in 21.98 and Saura Armengol is third (22.21).

100 IM – Ahmed Nabih is first (53.43) and Roger Miret Sala second (53.56).

1-Meter Diving – Nick Burciaga was first wit ha score of 287.10, while Christopher Kelly was third (251.32) and Illusha Gerasimchuk fourth (248.40).

3-Meter Diving – Kelly was first (293.47) and Burciaga second (243.66).

100 Fly – Saura Armengol touched first (52.03), Hawkins third (53.26) and Joe Zlotnick fourth (53.43).

100 Free – David Turner hit the wall second (49.37) and Daniel Mullen third (49.40).

100 Back – Shalamon led a 1-2-3 finish when he touched the wall first (52.41), followed by Miret Sala in second (52.57) and Hoah Ellis third (53.44).

500 Free – The Lakers went 1-2-3 again, led by Goodyear in first (4:44.78), Bartels in second (4:47.85) and Cade Vruggink in third (4:52.94).

100 Breast – Hawkins touched the wall first in a time of 58.77.

200 Free Relay – Miret Sala, Novikau, Vruggink and Turner hit the wall first in 1:26.83.

Women

200 Medley Relay – Melina De Cort, Delaney Wihebrink, Freyja Garbacio and Kelly Peasley touch the wall first in 1:47.58.

1000 Free – Neta Shiff touched first (10:29.80) and Charlotte Brereton third (11:08.48).

200 Free – Melina Goebel finished first (1:56.58) and Shiff second (1:58.14).

50 Free – Peasley hit the wall first (25.06) and Claire Meeuwsen third (25.20).

100 Free – Delaney Wihebrink finished second (1:01.92) and Samantha Laurich third (1:02.28).

1-Meter Diving – Mikayla Karasek finished second (267.66), Allyson Schafer third (257.92) and Nicole Taormina fourth 251.17).

3-Meter Diving – Karasek was first (280.12), Taormina second (253.05) and Allyson Schafer third (233.02).

100 Fly – Bianca Licari touched the wall second in 59.93 and Samantha Laurich third (1:01.27).

100 Free – Peasley finished first in 53.71 and Rebecca Farber second in 54.57.

100 Back – De Cort hit the wall first (59.14).

500 Free – Shiff was first 5:07.29 and Goebel second (5:19.72).

100 Breast – Delaney Wihebrink was first (1:06.22) and Laurich second (1:08.46).

200 Free Relay – Claire Meeuwsen, Rebecca Farber, Meda Kulbaciauskaite, Sidney Weaver touch second (1:41.03)
