PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers swimming and diving won all 19 events to complete its domination of the Preseason Tune-Up meet, including 14 on Saturday at the Rutgers Aquatics Center.
Sophomore Terka Grusova had her hand in six victories for the Scarlet Knights, with three individuals wins and three relay victories.
THE BOTTOM LINE
The Scarlet Knights’ sweep of each event added up to 1,482 points, well ahead of Seton Hall’s 787 and Rider’s 497.
FIRST THINGS FIRST
- Senior Francesca Bertotto opened the morning session with a victory in the grueling 400-yard individual medley. She later completed the sweep of the distance freestyle races by taking the mile in 17:15.27 after taking the 500 title on Friday.
- Sophomore Kasja Dymek won a close race in the 100-yard butterfly, touching in under a second ahead of Rider’s Kylie McMahon in 56.91 seconds.
- Senior Alexandra Fabugais-Inaba won her second event of the weekend, taking the 200-yard freestyle in a 1-2-3-4 finish for Rutgers.
- Freshman Aleksandra Ignatova claimed her first event victory of her collegiate career in the 100-yard breaststroke three seconds ahead the rest of the pool in 1:05.05. She completed the breaststroke sweep by winning the 200 by five seconds in 2:22.86.
- Grusova swept the backstroke events on Saturday, handily winning the 100- and 200-yard events.
- The 400-yard freestyle relay squad of freshman Giulia Ghidini, Grusova, Fabugais-Inaba and freshman Sofia Chichaikina scored a 13-second victory in 3:27.57.
- Freshman Sam Blanc, competing in her first collegiate three-meter event, took first place with a score of 267.60.
Chichaikina kicked off the final session with a win in the 100 IM, shortly before her second and third individual victory of the day in the 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard butterfly. - Rutgers finished the perfect weekend with a win in the 200-yard medley relay as Grusova, Ignatova, freshman Elinah Phillip and Chichaikina grabbed first in 1:45.43.
UP NEXT
The Scarlet Knights host its annual Alumni Meet on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 11 a.m. before a trip to Iowa (Nov. 8) and Iowa State (Nov. 9) for a pair of road dual meets.

Piscataway, N.J. – A pair of freshmen posted some outstanding times to lead the women’s swimming & diving team, which defeated Rider but lost to Rutgers Saturday at the Rutgers Preseason Tune-Up inside the Rutgers Aquatics Center.
Freshman Madeline Bachand (Raleigh, N.C.) delivered some strong distance performances, first finishing second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:07.64 and then completing the 1650 free with a time of 17:47.9 that was also good for second place.
Freshman Sierra Cripps (Seymour, Conn.) had a pair of top-three finishes on the weekend. She posted a 58.05 in the 100 butterfly to place third and then claimed second place in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:05.13.
Other top-three finishes on the weekend include freshman Savannah Kennedy (Fishers, Ind.) placing third in the 400 IM (4:37.60), junior Lexi Kolodgie (Baltimore, Md.) finishing third in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.97) and second in the 200 breaststroke (2:27.88), senior Jill Calocino (Maywood, N.J.) finishing third in the 1650 free (18:01.52) and junior Amelia Wootton (Bethel, Conn.) claiming third in the 100 IM (1:02.14).
Seton Hall will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 18 when it hosts Montclair State and Monmouth in tri-meet action at Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium. Meet time is 4 p.m.

PISCATAWAY, NJ – The Rider University women’s swimming and diving team closed out action at the 2019 Rutgers Preseason Tune-Up on Saturday afternoon. The two-day event features four teams from the Garden State and takes place at the Rutgers Aquatics Center.
The Broncs finished in third-place with 497 total points.
Sophomores Kayla May (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) and Kyle McMahon (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary’s) had strong days in the pool for Rider. May came in third in the 100 back with a time 57.94 and she also finished in fourth in the 200 back at 2:06.48, while McMahon ended up in second-place in the 100 fly at 57.89 and she also added a fourth-place result in the 200 fly thanks to touching at 2:08.73.
NOTES
– Rider, Princeton, Seton Hall and Rutgers are all sending student-athletes to the two-day event.
– In the 3M dive, Meg Tomayko finished in fourth-place with a total score of 231.30.
– Maddie McSorley was fourth in the 100 fly with a time of 58.64.
– Maire Wilson came in fifth in the 100 breast with a mark of 1:12.91.
– Kellie Quinn finished fifth in the 200 breast and she also added a sixth-place result in the 400 IM.
UP NEXT
Rider returns to action next Saturday, October 19, with a home meet against Lehigh. The meet will be the first-ever in the newly renovated Coppola Pool.
