Epitropov, Medlin, Romero, Schuermann Earn AAC Weekly Nods

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly swimming and diving honors for the combined weeks ending Sunday, Sept. 29 and Sunday, Oct. 6.

Men’s Swimmer of the Week
Lyubomir Epitropov * So. * East Carolina
Epitropov swept the 100 (:55.59) and 200 (2:01.54) breaststroke in a dual win over Old Dominion, before doubling in the 100 (:55.35) and 200 (1:59.78) breaststroke events once more in a dual meet at North Carolina.

Women’s Swimmer of the Week
Samantha Medlin * Jr. * Houston
Medlin posted runner-up results in the 1000 freestyle (10:29.35) and 500 freestyle (5:03.55) against Incarnate Word and UT-Permian Basin, then raced to victory with the fastest 500 freestyle time in The American this season (4:53.91) and added a first-place finish with the 400 freestyle relay in a conference dual win over Tulane.

Men’s Diver of the Week
Roy Romero * Fr. * East Carolina
Romero swept both the 1-meter (301.80 points) and 3-meter (297.55 points) events in a dual win over Old Dominion, and claimed the 1-meter title with a score of 323.48 points the following week at North Carolina.

Women’s Diver of the Week
Claire Schuermann * Sr. * Cincinnati
Schuermann claimed the win in the 1-meter dive with 276.07 points and added a victory off the 3-meter board with 255.80 points in a dual matchup at Indianapolis.
