Select race videos from meet 1 of the 2019 International Swimming League series, hosted in Indianapolis, are now available via the ISL YouTube channel. That includes a video of the American Record set by Katie Ledecky in the women’s 400 meter free that narrowly-missed the World Record as well.
Ledecky’s swim of 3:54.06 was easily under the American Record set by Katie Hoff in 2010 at 3:57.07. Ledecky last swam in short course meters at the 2013 Duel in the Pool, where she was a 4:02 in the 400 free. USA Swimming has confirmed that they will recognize Americans Records set at ISL meets.
The win was Ledecky’s only one of the meet for the DC Trident.
Also available are the finals of the skins races. While there was still significant money on the line, neither final had a particular point pressure, as both finalists of both the men’s and women’s races swim for Energy Standard. In the women’s finale, Sarah Sjostrom beat Femke Heemskerk. In the men’s final, Florent Manaudou took a gigantic breath off the start (and about a dozen more thereafter), while Ben Proud finished the 50 safely.
The commentators seem oblivious to the WR/AR in this race until after the finish. Oops
Is the ISL format SCM for all meets?
It is. The original plan was for the host team to select course according to their strengths, but eventually they decided to make the whole season SCM.
Is nose clip the swimming accessory that allowed in freestyle competition. It looks like Sjostrom uses it. Is it to get advantage or it serves some other, let’s say health purposes?
Nose clips are allowed for any race. Rare to see them used outside of backstroke/IM but I think Licon has worn one for breast races.
Proud looked to be nearly standing still ……..Bruh !!!
Thank god Rowdy isnt commentating!!! Addlington is great
agreed
How many Olympic gold medals do you have? How many world records did you break in your lifetime? Until you and other rowdy bashers can meet or exceed what he has done in your lifetime with swimming then it would probably be smart to not to talk crap about him
you’re rubric for successful announcing has nothing to do with successful announcing.
This is a bad take. I generally like Rowdy and think he is GOOD FOR SWIMMING. That said, being a great swimmer has zero to do with being a great announcer.
My favorite moment was when someone used this line on a commenter who does, in fact, meet or exceed Rowdy’s level of success. I guess we didn’t learn our lesson.
Rowdy would have known that Katie swam SCM in the 2013 Duel in the Pool.
Too bad Titmus and Ledecky weren’t swimming next to each other like at the Worlds.
Cool that fans see them racing each other more than once a year.
Not sure how much it matters but Ledecky seems to be catching a lot of bubbles with her left hand.
I swear it became worse in that regard when she went to stanford. Like her catch got worse but her stroke rate got higher to even it out and the speed stayed relatively the same
