White Tops Crimson in New Mexico State Intersquad Clash

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State women’s swimming and diving team wrapped up its annual Crimson and White inter-squad scrimmage with White taking down Crimson 54-48 on Wednesday afternoon at the NM State Swimming and Diving Complex.

White got on the board first with the foursome of Anabel Ivanov, Ashley Reynolds, Rachel Ponte and Aimee Burton posting a 1:46.76 in the 200 Medley Relay. White also finished first in the second race of the day, the 500 Free, with Katherine Harston finishing in 5:25.77.

Then, Crimson picked up back-to-back first-place finishes with Airam Oliva-Aun winning the 100 Free at 53.98 and transfer Jordan Andrusak taking first in the 200 IM (2:12.42). Crimson picked up another win on the 1m board as Italia Aranzabal earned a score of 215.32. Although, White righted the ship and picked up two more first-place finishes of its own with freshman Rachel Ponte posting a 58.13 in the 100 Fly and fellow freshman Burton (24.35) edging Neza Kocijan (24.51) in the 50 Free.

Then, freshman Maude Boily-Dufour impressed in the 100 Back for the Crimson side, recording a 59.10 to just beat out White’s Anabel Ivanov (59.46). Next, Lauren Hemburrow got white back to the top of the podium with a 2:00.86 in the 200 Free before Aranzabal put together another solid performance, this time picking up the win on the 3m board with a score of 258.67.

However, White then won the last two events to clutch out the win as Ashley Reynolds (1:07.04) out-touched Crimson’s Skylar Welle (1:07.17) in the 100 Back before White’s squad of Sina Wegel, Burton, Harston and Hemburrow placed first in the 200 Free Relay at 1:38.87.

The Aggies return to the pool when they begin the regular season with a home meet against Western Athletic Conference rival Northern Colorado at the Swimming and Diving complex on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 11:30 a.m. (MT).
