California Sprinter Zach McIntyre Will Cross Country To Swim For Duke In 2020

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Zach McIntyre of Novato High School and the Marin Pirates in Novato, California, has announced his verbal intention to swim for Duke University in the fall of 2020. A sprint specialist, McIntyre has dropped his 200-yard freestyle time from a 1:45.29 to a 1:39 low over the last two years.

At the 2019 California CIF North Coast Sections Championship in May, McIntyre took 4th place in both the 100 and 200-yard freestyles (45.19 and 1:39.02 respectively). Back in February at the Arizona Short Course Senior Open Championships, he won the 200-yard freestyle (1:39.26), was runner up in the 50-yard freestyle (20.83), and took home a bronze medal in the 100-yard butterfly (50.64).

Top Times in Yards:

  • 50 free – 20.49
  • 100 free – 44.93
  • 200 free – 1:39.02
  • 100 fly – 50.17

Last year at the 2019 ACC Championship meet it took a 20.01/43.76/1:36.62 to make a scoring final in the 50/100/200 yard freestyles respectively. McIntyre will join fellow sprinter Luke Johnson and distance swimmer Adam Vlasic as the confirmed members of the Blue Devils class of 2024.
