Yan Zibei Breaks 100 Breast Chinese, Asian Records in Semifinals – 58.67

2019 FINA WORLD AQUATICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Yan Zibei of China broke his own Asian Record in the 100 breast during the first semifinal, clocking a 58.67. Zibei had swum his personal best and the previous Asian Record just under a month ago at the Mission Viejo Meet of Champions in the US, where he posted a 58.74. Yan’s time still holds at 4th fastest in the world this year, now just .01 seconds behind James Wilby of Great Britain. Zibei earned the 2nd seed for tomorrows final, next to Adam Peaty, who broke the World Record and the 57 second barrier in semis.

Here is a split comparison between Zibei’s race today and his race at the end of June:

World Champs Semifinal 7/21 Mission Viejo 6/23
50 27.49 27.84
100 31.18 30.90
Final time 58.67 58.74

It appears Zibei took today’s semifinal race out just a little more aggressively than he did a month ago. It seems to have paid off, as he was still able to keep his split coming home close to his faster 2nd 50 split from June.
