Santa Clarita swim coach Jeremy Anderson died suddenly Wednesday in U.S. Marshal custody as he was being extradited from Costa Rica.
Anderson, 47, was a coach at Canyons Aquatic Club from 2006-2017. In December 2017, a victim came forward alleging he had been sexually assaulted by Anderson in that time. Since then, 10 more potential victims have been identified, according to The Signal. Anderson was entered in the SafeSport database with an interim suspension while the case was under investigation in March 2018.
Last December, detectives presented their findings to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office, reportedly finding that Anderson had had sexually explicit conversations with the victims, sexually assaulted them and solicited child pornography. The District Attorney filed 19 counts of lewd acts with a child and possession of child pornography against Anderson.
Detectives learned that Anderson had fled the country prior to arresting him, The Signal‘s report added. Officials tracked him to Costa Rica and arrested him June 13.
His cause of death is unknown at this point.

The board of this team ignored many warnings about this chester, and USA Swimming definitely has some blame here for sure. All coach’s and board members associated with this man should be questioned about what they knew…this went on FAR too long for no one to know. The man was a menace and a true social misfit, all the signs were there.

I read another article where a commenter spoke about bringing concerns to the board of Canyons and his family was told to leave the team. I am appalled that families are still being targeted for “saying something when you see something”. The villain and their enablers are usually very good at playing the victim. At least now that he’s dead, he won’t be able to hurt another young athlete. There is way too much covering the eyes, plugging the ears and refusing to do the right thing.
I think you underestimate the manipulation that goes along with these cases. Some people stay silent because the parents seem okay with the grooming that takes place. As long as their kid is getting favorable attention from the coach, the weird stuff doesn’t seem so weird. If it looks like the parents condone normally suspicious behavior, everyone else will too. This happened with my sister’s volleyball coach. Coaches and other team members need to act despite the manipulation. If something seems wrong, report it immediately no matter the comfort of those who would normally protect the child.

Like others have pointed out, the timeline is wrong. Jeremy Anderson was very involved in Southern California Swimming. In fact, he received the Phillips Volunteer Service Award (Southern California Swimming) HONOR ROLL for 2017. Appears in the SCS Swim Guide, page 117. Wow – much hasn’t changed in 9 years since a handful of individuals on this HONOR ROLL ******* over my child while their friends covered for them. Perhaps the Massachusetts Attorney General should step in and clean up Southern California Swimming while they’re tackling the Admissions Scandal!
One part of your article is not true. He coached at Canyons 2007 to 2017, not 2011.
Anderson was on the LSC Board of Directors and in charge of All Star Travel Teams for Southern Cal Swimming over that time. He was responsible for athletes aged 9 to 18 travel trips, sometimes out of the country, which parents were encouraged not to attend. We will see more victims I’m afraid.
Timeline is wrong. He was a coach all the way to 2017. Fired after allegations arose.
