2019 Swimming Australia World Trials

If you saw our High-Level Meet Calendar of international meets go out earlier today, then you know the Swimming Australia World Trials are on the horizon. This is not to be mistaken for the Australian National Championships, which already took place this past April.

The 6-day meet taking place June 9th-14th at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre is the sole competition qualifying Australian swimmers for this summer’s World Championships in Gwangju, Korea. Per the official selection policy, the 1st and 2nd placed athletes in each Olympic event will be eligible for selection, provided they meet or exceed the minimum time standards included in the grid below.

If only the 1st placed athlete equals or betters the selection time, then just that one athlete will be selected, while the roster spot will remain empty if no athlete achieves the minimum mark.

We’ve linked the final start list in the bullet points above and will be producing follow-up posts highlighting specific swimmers’ line-ups, as well as any surprises, so stay tuned for additional articles on this competition.

This is when we see if Chalmers was telling the truth when he went his 47.4 “unrested”.

Will we, with the Australian stocks in free sprinting, not sure if Chalmers needs to be at best to qualify.

The 100fr QT is such that he’ll need to be sharp but maybe not his best to qualify. Given we’ve seen an in-season sub48 as well as the 47.48 where his level of rest/taper may be open to speculation; he’s a pretty sound bet to QT. A 2nd qualifier is no sure thing given the pedestrian performances post PP of all other AUS sprinters other than Chalmers. As for not qualifying a 4×100 for Tokyo; the top 12 from Worlds will automatically qualify so they SHOULD make that cut however 2015 Worlds should be a cautionary note when they rested their fastest 2 and not only failed to make the final but missed auto qualification for Rio. Chalmers WILL need… Read more »

Cartwright hasn’t swam a 100 since Pan Pacs so it’ll be interesting to see what he can do.

Well.. day 1 is pretty much an easy day… I think just a few countries might rest some guys on prelims (Brazil – Breno and maybe someone else, Russia and US, the rest will go full force), Australia might be safe unless the number 4 guy goes like a 49 relay start

They could get away with resting Chalmers if they had at least another couple swimming 48s but Cartwright’s seemingly out and everyone else (incl McEvoy) are only swimming 49s; they just don’t have that margin for error.

Fast times. Many (not all) will have to be fully tapered to hit them. Some events might not qualify anyone. Gonna be interesting that’s for sure

The leading countries are really setting fast qualification times…I hope it inspires swimmers, and does not intimidate and frighten them.
