Kenyon College Snags Pine Crest Flyer/Backstroker Nicholas Vale

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Nicholas Vale of Pine Crest School and Pine Crest Swim Team in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has announced his verbal commitment to swim at Kenyon College beginning in the fall of 2019. A backstroker and butterflier, Vale will be joining the very tough North Coast Athletic Conference, but will bring with him career-best times in the 100-yard butterfly and backstroke that would have ranked him within the top 15 of the conference for the 2018-2019 season.

“I am beyond excited to finally announce my commitment to swim and study at Kenyon College. Thank you to my family, all of my friends, and teachers who have supported me and helped me along the way. This has been a dream of mine for quite some time now and I am very grateful for this opportunity. Go Lords!

At the 2018 Florida 1A State Championships in November, Vale took 4th place in the 100-yard butterfly (50.19) and 5th place in the 100-yard backstroke (52.58). In March he swam at the Florida Gold Coast Senior Championships and took 6th place in the 100-yard butterfly (50.50) and 200-yard freestyle (1:43.95) and 7th place in the 100-yard freestyle (47.29) and 200-yard butterfly (1:56.46).

Best Times in Yards

  • 100 fly – 49.37
  • 200 fly – 1:52.96
  • 100 back – 51.17
  • 50 free – 21.83
  • 100 free – 46.68
  • 200 IM – 1:52.46

Vale will be joining a Lords team that fell 21 points shy of an NCAC title in 2019 and tied for 2nd place at the 2019 NCAA DIII Championships. While his 100 yard backstroke time is still short of an NCAA DIII ‘B’ cut, his 100 yard butterfly time is good enough for that ‘B’ cut and is .45 seconds short of the 2019 invite time for Nationals. He will join Michael Van Keuren, Spencer Pruett, Nicholas Hong, Andrew Stolarski, Liam Sweeney, and Jake Ritz as member of the Class of 2023 with Pruett being the only other back/fly specialist.
