St. Bonaventure University, an NCAA Division I program in St. Bonaventure, New York, has announced the hiring of Laura Harting as its new assistant coach. She is listed as the program’s lone assistant coach for the men’s and women’s combined program, replacing Logan Hellwig in that role.
She is the team’s 4th assistant coach in as many seasons. Logan Arnold, who was an assistant in the 2017-2018 season, followed Brian Thomas to George Washington when he was hired as the new head coach there. He was St. Bonaventure’s first-ever full-time assistant, and a year later, the programs were combined under Skip Nitardy. Thomas’ replacement as head coach, Nitardy hired program alumnus Hellwig as his assistant last season.
Harting comes to St. Bonaventure after spending the last 2 seasons as a graduate assistant at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio while also serving as the head coach for the Walnut Grove Swim Club summer league program, as well as acting as head lifeguard and assistant manager at the pool. The Walnut Grove Swim Club will not open for the 2019 season after a 6-year old nearly drowned during a non-swim team activity.
As an athlete, Harting was a 4-year letter winner at Division II Urbana University in Urbana, Ohio.
The St. Bonaventure women finished 9th out of 11 teams at last year’s Atlantic 10 Championships while the men’s team took 3rd out of 8 teams. That was a 4-spot jump for the St. Bonaventure men and a 4-spot decline for the St. Bonaventure women as compared to a year prior.
The programs were combined under Nitardy for the first time ever in 18-19 season, not Thomas.
