The Sacred Heart University Swimming and Diving team defeated Monmouth University with a final score of 151-116. First year Nicole Tingley was unbeaten on the day, winning both the 100 and 200 freestyles, and the 200 individual medley. Junior Lauren Somers claimed three more wins for the Pioneers while setting a new McCann Natatorium pool record in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.10.
The relay team of Taylor Eck, Somers, Emily Peter, and Grace Bergstrom touched 1st with a time of 4:05.91 in the 400-yard medley relay. Margaret Flaherty and Nicole Sauve followed up with a one-two finish respectively in the 1000-yard freestyle.
Senior Jessica Poole posted a 2:34.47 to win the 200-yard breaststroke while teaming up with junior Julia Pusateri to win the 100-yard breaststroke. Junior Nikole Rudis put up another win in the 200-butterfly with a time of 2:16.70. Sophomore Emily Peter and diver Molly Martin also added to the Pioneer victory with 1st place finishes.
The women’s swimming and diving team will close out their dual meet season at home versus St. Francis Brooklyn Saturday, Feb. 2nd at 12:30pm.

FAIRFIELD, CT – The Monmouth University men’s and women’s swimming teams closed their regular season schedule against NJIT and Sacred Heart on Saturday afternoon in Fairfield, CT.
The women’s team fell to 5-8 on the season, while the men’s team dropped to 6-5 on the season.
Camryn McHugh led the women’s team with three individual wins, while Callan Smith won two races.

Monmouth’s men won the 400-yard medley relay as Callan Smith, Austin D’Angelo, Dylan Barkhuizen and Valance Washington finished in 3:37.76.
Both of Monmouth’s 200-yard freestyle relay teams won their races. The women’s team of Bradie Keelen, Muriel Maloney, Mary Emich and Alyssa Cherubino posted a time of 1:43.49. The men’s group of Valance Washington, Kevin Del Giorno, Dylan Barkhuizen and Ethan Lucas clocked in at 1:27.97.
Camryn McHugh claimed the top spot in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.53. She also won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:09.96 and the 100 yard butterfly (59.95). McHugh reached 23 individual wins for the 2018-19 season.
Callan Smith placed first in the 200-yard backstroke (2:00.24) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:59.79). Smith increased his season victory total to 30.
Kevin Del Giorno won the 100-yard backstroke by touching the wall in 54.51. Del Giorno won the third race of his freshman season.
Austin D’Angelo took the crown in the 100-yard breaststroke, winning in 1:00.93. D’Angelo won his fourth race of the season and the seventh of his career.
Nate Heisey won the 200-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 2:14.50, and the 200-yard IM (2:00.51). It marked the third individual victory of his freshman campaign.
Louise Barker‘s time of 5:30.21 was good for first place in the 500-yard freestyle. It was the first individual victory of Barker’s career.
Lauren Baines was the top finisher in the 200-yard IM, winning in 2:22.86 for her seventh triumph in 2018-19.

Monmouth will travel to Buffalo, NY for the 2018-19 MAAC Swimming Championships. The four-day event begins on Wednesday, February 13 at Burt Flickinger Center at Erie Community College.
