Brendan Eckerman of Aquawolves Swimming in Colorado has verbally committed to the Wisconsin Badgers. Eckerman is a senior at state swimming power Cherry Creek High School.
Super hyped to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Wisconsin! I immediately fell in love with the town of Madison, the campus, the opportunities, and the intimacy of the team, and I couldn’t be more excited for the next four years!

Eckerman is solid across all four strokes, with strengths in sprint free, in breast, and especially in the 200 IM. He competed at the 2018 Winter Junior Champs – West, and scored in the 200 IM. He went his lifetime best 1:49.53 in prelims, and he finished 22nd overall in finals. At the 2018 Colorado 5A HS Champs last May, representing Cherry Creek High School, he was the runner-up in the 100 free and placed 4th in the 200 IM.
With his best times, Eckerman would’ve been 5th on Wisconsin’s top times list last year in the 100 breast, 200 breast, and 200 IM. He joins Wes Jekel and Tadzio Kurka in Wisconsin’s incoming class.

In the late 80’s, I coached age-groupers who would go on to equal or beat his BR/IM times as high-schoolers. I trust that Barry Alverez’s choice for the current swim coach has much further insight than me.

Facts! Love, love, love your comment KLORN8D. Yuri comes off as super insightful and as one who really pays attention to details, I would place my money on him versus Coach Biff from the 80s when it comes to identifying talent.
Are you really trying to claim that a 1:49 in the 200 IM for a swimmer who hasn’t yet swum his last high school taper meet is somehow ‘not good enough’ to swim at Wisconsin?? You must be misremembering the quality of your age-groupers, because nobody who was coaching age groupers to 1:49s in the 200 IM in the 80s would be so out of touch to think this. 1:49 gets a look from every coach in the country. Seriously, I’ll eat my hat if there’s a college coach in the US that doesn’t pick up the phone for a 1:49 IMer.
