French racer Melanie Henique came painstakingly close to a bronze medal in the women’s 50m fly tonight in Hangzhou, finishing just .05 off of American Kelsi Dahlia’s time of 24.97. However, Henique did register a new French National Record of 25.02, shaving .03 off of her newly-minted national standard she set just last month at the French Short Course National Championships.

Here in Hangzhou, Henique steadily improved from prelims to finals, producing a 2nd seeded 25.43 after prelims, then a 5th seeded 25.24 to finally a 4th place 25.02 tonight. Winning the final was Dutch Olympian Ranomi Kromowidjojo, who scored a new Championship Record in 24.47, while Australian veteran Holly Barratt took silver in 24.80.

With her outing this evening, the 25-year-old maintains her spot as owning the 12th fastest performance in history.
