SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Five different members of the Cal Poly women’s swimming and diving team won two events as the Mustangs won 15 of the 16 events in a 170-112 win over Pepperdine Saturday at Anderson Aquatic Center.
Sophomore Karina Hankee first won the 200 free with a time of 1:54.83. She later won her second event of the day in the 500 free with a time of 5:03.79, which was nearly nine seconds ahead of second place.
Sophomore Sascha Keir also won two events on the afternoon. First, she won the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.36. She then won the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.17.
Junior Amelia Feick won two events for the second consecutive meet after winning two last week at UC Santa Barbara. Saturday against the Waves, Feick first won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.44. She then won the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:22.72, nearly four seconds faster than second.
Also winning two events on the day for the Mustangs was senior Emily Imfeld. Imfeld won the 50 free with a time of 24.44. She then got her second win of the day later in the 100 free with a time of 52.98
For the diving team, freshman Joelle Weltner won both the 1 meter and 3 meter dive events. In the 1 meter, she won with a final dive score of 268.05, over 40 points ahead of second. She then won the 3 meter with a final score of 272.25, also more than 40 points ahead of second place.
Senior Meghan Merlihan, freshman Adelynn Peterson, freshman Grace Maguire and junior Alie Epple were the other four Mustangs who won events Saturday. As a team, Cal Poly also won the 200 medley relay with Maguire, Feick, Keir and Imfeld with a time of 1:48.36.
The Mustang dive team will compete next weekend at the Trojan Diving Invitational hosted by USC. The swim team waits until the end of the month when it heads to Las Vegas for the UNLV Winter Invitational.

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The Pepperdine women’s swim and dive team swam well on Saturday, but fell to Cal Poly 170-112. Caroline Boone, Amy Griffin, Sammie Slater and Trinity Ishikawa teamed up for the lone Waves’ victory of the day in the 200 free relay.
MEET RECAP
Boone, Griffin, Slater and Ishikawa had a great 200 free relay, winning the race with a time of 1:38.41, almost four seconds faster than second place. The other relay event of the day was also very successful for the Waves. The team of Cassie Anderson, Juju Chan, Haley Bergthold and Griffin had a time of 1:48.42 in the 200 medley relay, just six-hundredths of a second behind the first place team.
Olivia Kayye had a solid showing in the 200 free, taking second place with a 1:55.71, just under a second behind first place and a lifetime best. Kayye also had a second place finish in the 400 IM with a time of 4:38.30. Griffin swam well in the 50 free, taking third place with a 24.75, just three-tenths behind the first place finisher. In the 100 free, Caroline Boone swam to a second-place finish with a time of 53.52. Rounding out the freestyle races, Paige Brackett swam a 5:12.36, good for second place.
Taylor Basin took second place in both diving events, scoring 227.10 points in the three meter and 224.10 in the one meter.
The Waves had numerous athletes with lifetime bests on Saturday. Pia Anderson had a lifetime best in the 1000 free with a 10:55.04. In the same race, Sydney Brault had a lifetime best 11:13.72. Slater had a lifetime best time in the 200 free, with a 1:56.81. In the 200 fly, two athletes had lifetime bests: Kayla Smith swam a 2:16.31 and Gabriella Maffly swam a 2:18.22.
QUOTABLE
“We had another really good day today,” said Head Coach Joe Spahn. “The team is very tired and broken down but are still finding ways to swim fast.
“Our 200 freestyles were very good today. Carol Boone has a very strong showing in the 100 free. Paige Brackett did a great job with her 200 free 500 free double. Lauren Allard and Anna Reikhof swam great 200 breaststroke’s.
“It’s great to finish the weekend with 4 relays (200 and 400 medley and 200 and 400 free) with the fastest times in the conference right now. We are performing very well as a team. It will be nice to have 4 weeks to get back to training before we race again.”

The Waves will be back in action Friday, November 30 when they travel to San Diego State for a dual meet.
