NEC Names Sacred Heart’s Lauren Somers Swimmer of the Week

SOMERSET, N.J.– Junior swimmer Lauren Somers was named the Northeast Conference Swimmer of the Week as announced by the NEC this afternoon.

Somers kicked-off her 2018-19 season with three individual wins and a pair of NEC top-times of the season over the weekend. She is now a five-time weekly award winner in her career and has finished with victorious swims in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle events. The times of 52.36 and 1:54.89 in the 100 and 200, respectively, best all other NEC competitors in those events so far this season.

Her 50 freestyle also ranks second only to LIU’s Brianna Vega – the defending NEC champion in the event – by just .05 of a second. The Hudson, New Hampshire native’s performance helped the Pioneers defeat conference rival Central Connecticut along with LIU Post.
