Recently, Dylan Boyd announced his decision to transfer out of ASU to finish out his three remaining years of NCAA eligibility with Michigan. Now, two Indiana swimmers have announced they’ll be transferring to ASU. Jackson Etter and Jack Kucharczyk, both sophomores, are heading to Tempe for the next NCAA season.
Arizona State is where Indiana had its winter training trip in the 2017-2018 season, giving the athletes an up-close-and-personal look at the Tempe campus.
JACKSON ETTER
Etter, a rising junior from State College, Pa., is an IM’er/distance freestyler.
“I am transferring for the opportunity to swim for Bob Bowman and his fantastic staff, and to take advantage of all that Phoenix and ASU have to offer, including the weather.”

“A.S.U. provides endless opportunities in swimming, academics as well as a great environment to succeed. With the team culture, and guidance of Bob Bowman, as well as his staff all goals are possible. I can’t wait for next chapter.”

Anybody else thing the ASU hand sign is kind of shocking?
My grandson committed to ASU a few months ago. Even though I’m an A&M alum, I support his decision completely. It would be hard for me to do that if I didn’t have full confidence that Bob Bowman & company were going to help him get faster in the pool & reach his academic goal of obtaining a degree from ASU. No doubts about this on this front.
As far as partying, I’m sure every campus location has that availability & everyone has their “free agency” to partake in that endeavor if desired.
Everyone should be happy for these guys’s decision. Both believe that ASU is where they will excell in the pool & in the classroom.

Must be some bad waters and all stems from the top. Always had a bad feeling about Bloomington
IU cut six guy swimmers. One of them was a captain. All of them would’ve scored at B10’s
Do we know the names of who got cut ?
These guys definitely would’ve gotten cut and wanted to continue swimming
If Jackson wants to compete nationally, he should be transferring to a NAIA or a NCAA Division 3 program (maybe a D2). He’d still have to get faster but he’d have a way bigger impact on the team’s success at at least the conference level. Two years in one of the country’s best programs is ample time to get a good glimpse as to what kind of DI national potential he has.
Jack has good breaststroke PR’s and would be immediately competitive at the NAIA or NCAA D3 level. Get to swim individually and maybe/likely on relays. Lots of guys get faster at these schools, as well. Success is usually fun!
Oh yeah. Most D3’s have stellar academic programs.… Read more »
Are you talking about both Jack’s
2 L/C puts him in finals in Mesa seems successful in D-1
ASU looking to be the fastest rising team in the country try right now, and the less intelligent half of the country can’t see why that’s a great thing.
14th to 20th in a year.. best swimmer 1:31 to 1:33 in a year, 12 kids leaving. Great progression there bud
Glad Bowman purged the undeserving. Can’t really see how anyone sees this and Dylan Boyd and can’t see the writing on the wall. A 1:35 2free leaving right before two 1:34s arrive? Have to be a real fool to misinterpret that one lol Jonesy 😀
Could you define underserving and what they did to get that title? Probably not
Bowman “purged” 1 out of the 12 swimmers who have left this season. I would hardly call that a purge, and that was done for something other than “undeserving”. These kids are leaving of their own accord because of a variety of reasons. Some turnover is expected each year but to have 12 kids want to leave a program in one year speaks volumes about what is going on there.
For women’s: 1 left in December due to a dysfunctional sacroiliac joint. 1 left after 2 months due to pre-med major conflicting with swim schedule. 1 left to move to IU under her club coach Coley Stickles. The other 2 girls just typical drama involving boys in the team which Bowman didn’t put up with and had to put a stop to.
For men’s: 3 left early in the season due to injuries, 1 left after PAC-12 due to scholarship money, Dylan transfered out to find a better fitting team for him, and Joe Molinari left in January due to personal reasons.
So stop insinuating that these were all Bob Bowman’s doing or ‘purging’. STOP spreading rumours and baseless stories!… Read more »
More like half truths be told along with lies. The woman who left in December has committed to another D1 program to swim starting this fall. The second with the major conflict was not all due to academics. When they are recruited, kids are told that they can study whatever they want, but when they get on campus it’s a different story and they are not alllowed. The 3rd woman you mention is not leaving because of Coley, she is unhappy. The fact he is at IU is convenient for her. The fact is YOU are spreading rumors because she has not committed anywhere. So stop spreading rumors. The boy drama is totally false. These women all left on their… Read more »
13 between men and women…natural attrition. Wait till you see what the top 5 do to their rosters…13 men alone from one year to another at IU. They hide it by keeping the cut pics on the roster till they can replace them with the new class. Stop arguing about what happen and ask the NCAA when they are going to protect the athlete from broken rule and promises.
Absolutely the truth. Volumes and volumes. And external overzealous parents screaming at other teams parents during meets. Classless! Would never want to be associated. These 12 learned that this program didn’t come as advertised! Cheers to them! Go Dylan and those who woke up!
Odd place to talk about this, programs arent about parents nor do they have any place in this convo
Transfer is a difficult task and while I would have been tickled pink if one of my club swimmers wanted to follow me when I made the leap to college coaching, there would have to be tremendously good reason behind it. It’s very sad if this is a repeated college coaching failure.
less intelligent? Easy there! I am a big fan of NCAA and I’ve followed ASU over the past 2 years under Bowman. I have to disagree that ASU is the fastest rising when the team (particularly the men’s side) did not improve their NCAA and PAC12 standing. In fact, ASU men dropped from 14th in 2017 to 20th in 2018
Out of curiosity, and please note the lack of assertion behind this idea of mine, but I have to ask. Did you think Cal was gonna win this year? Lots of people miss the big ideas watching the short term results.
Is Ray Looze regretting his training trip location?
That’s what I was thinking
I doubt. These guys were probably told no guaranteed spots on team next year for them
