Chad le Clos (RSA) scratched the 200m IM final this morning to focus on the 100m Butterfly. The 200 IM falls before the 100m Fly semi-final in tonight’s finals session.
Le Clos is the top seed into the semi’s of the 100 Fly. He clocked a 51.54 in prelims ahead of Michael Phelps‘ (USA) 51.72 and Evgeny Korotyshkin‘s (RUS) 51.84.
Le Clos was tied with James Goddard (GBR) at seventh for the 200 IM Final. Markus Deibler of Germany will fall in as the eighth finalist. This scratch really steps up the significance of the DQ of Austria’s Markus Rogan in the semi-finals on Wednesday evening, as he would have been 9th.
Le Clos was the winner of the 200m Butterfly earlier in the meet when he out touched Michael Phelps to win gold.
Okay, but starting now: no more tears.
When did the scratch take place? Does it not have to be within a certain amount of time following the event/session?
Uh I guess le Clos is fair but another second to cut off is a lifetime! If Michael focus the first wall it’s on the way to get his triple crown. It’ll be 50″6 not better
SO now Rogan’s DQ does matter – he would be in the top 8
who is the new finalist?
Good strategy. Phelps has been taking out these fly events very fast, but has looked vulnerable in the last 15 metres. I give him a better chance than Cavic, who is clearly past his best now. If le Clos can take off another second or so, the victory should be in his pocket. I am not expecting the winning time to be under 50.5s.
