Drury’s Bailee Nunn Named DII Honda Athlete of the Year Nominee

Drury University sophomore Bailee Nunn has been named the Division II Honda Athlete of the Year Nominee for swimming & diving, part of the Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) program. That makes her one of 11 finalists for the award, with the winner to be voted upon by over 1,000 NCAA member schools to select the CWSA Division II Athlete of the Year. The winner will be announced live on CBS Sports network on June 25th, 2018.

“It’s an honor and privilege to be selected for this award, ” said Nunn. “I would like to thank Drury University for providing me the opportunity to swim for such a great school. I would also like to thank my coaches, parents, and my amazing teammates for pushing me to be the best I can be.”

Nunn won all 4 of her individual events at the meet:

  • 200 IM – 1:57.55
  • 100 fly – 53.01
  • 100 breast – 59.89
  • 200 breast – 2:10.90

She’s also the D2 National Record holder in the 50 free, set as a freshman last year on a relay leadoff. She also added All-America honors in 3 relays as part of a runner-up team finish for Drury. They scored 401 points at the meet, even with a DQ’ed relay, which left them 173.5 points away from the champions Queens, though a comfortable 113 points ahead of 3rd-place Nova Southeastern.

This award anoints one finalist from 11 NCAA Division II sports forward to a national vote, where a winner is selected. The sports included are basketball, cross country, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, track & field, and volleyball. Only one swimmer has ever won the award since its inauguration in 1988: Jessica Martin from Truman State, who took top honors in 2001.
