Koseki Continues Post-Suspension Comeback With 50 Breast NR

2018 JAPAN SWIM (JAPANESE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS)

26-year-old Yasuhiro Koseki has given the Tokyo crowd one heck of a comeback swim, as the just-off-suspension athlete crushed a new Japanese national record in the men’s 50m breaststroke tonight. While competing on day 3 of the 2018 Japan Swim, 1 of 2 qualifying meets for the Pan Pacific Championships later this summer, Koseki threw down a big time 27.12 to take gold ahead of Masaki Niyama and Hayato Watanabe, who finished with silver and bronze in times of 27.52 and 27.56, respectively.

Koseki’s suspension for a team altercation at a training camp concluded in March and he has used these championships to reintroduce himself to the Japanese swimming world. Already in the 100m breast he came within .06 of legend Kosuke Kitajima’s national record of 59.90 by posting 59.96 in the semi-final on day 1. Koseki would up winning the 100m in a final time of 59.30

Koseki is now tied for 6th among the world rankings in the event so far this season.
