USA Swimming Scholastic All-American Olwyn Bartis has announced her verbal commitment to the Duke University class of 2023. She wrote on social media:
“So excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim for Duke University. Super thankful for everyone who has helped me reach this point. Can’t wait to be a Blue Devil!!!!”
Bartis hails from Charlotte, North Carolina where she attends Charlotte Catholic High School and swims for SwimMAC Carolina. She won both the 100 free (50.69) and 200 free (1:48.64) and anchored the winning 400 free relay at the 2018 NCHSAA 3A Swimming and Diving Championships in February. In club swimming she was an A-finalist at Winter Juniors East in the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free, and 500 free, notching PBs in all four events.
Bartis is a nice get for Duke, and is already within shooting range of the program records in the 50/100/200/500 free. Had she been on the Blue Devils’ squad this season she would have accounted for the second-fastest performances in the 100/200/500 free and the third-fastest 50 free.
Top SCY times:
- 50 free – 22.78
- 100 free – 49.44
- 200 free – 1:46.39
- 500 free – 4:46.31
- 100 back – 55.14
- 200 back – 2:01.70

“Don’t have a dog in this hunt” (since I’m no fan of NC State or UNC & I don’t know this young lady). Everyone should be glad that this young lady has gotten a scholarship to the school she believes is in her best interest athletically & academically. Congratulations Olwyn. From a Sun Devil Fan, wishing you the best at Duke!
Get ready to have nightmares about NC state for the next four years!
Nightmares about lesser education and having to wear that awful red color for four years? Yeah sounds pretty scary.
Congrats Olwyn!!
surprising…. since they just lost #kansas
