Coming off a historic day that included two 17-second flat-start 50 frees, one 17-second flying start 50 free and a 50.6 breaststroke split, Caeleb Dressel is feeling some ill effects heading into day 3.
Dressel was noticeably affected after swimming breaststroke on the medley relay last night, walking very gingerly on deck. He was also icing his left leg during post-meet interviews, and this morning had athletic tape inside of his left thigh as he got in the water for warmup.
Sources tell SwimSwam that Dressel was experiencing pain in his groin area after that medley relay. Though he had the second-fastest split of anyone in the field at 50.6, Dressel was not nearly as fast as the 50.03 he put up from a flat start in the 100 breast at SECs – a meet where he was much slower in the 50 free than he’s been so far in Minneapolis.
On the other hand, Dressel appeared to be walking much more naturally this morning on deck, and didn’t look affected during warmup, though he spent a lot of time stretching his legs and groin on deck before he got in.
Dressel has already swum 6 times this week, and still has a heavy schedule incoming. He will swim the 100 fly today and is almost certainly a member of Florida’s 200 medley relay. Tomorrow, he’ll swim the 100 free and Florida’s 400 free relay for a potential 8 more swims. He won’t swim any more breaststroke, though, outside of the off-chance he swims breaststroke again on Florida’s medley relay today.
We reached out to Florida’s media staff for more information on Dressel’s status, but have not yet gotten a response.
I can think of 100,000 people who would volunteer to massage those muscles for him…
This happened to save us from having multiple heart attacks with 2 new records setting stellar finals ….? . Joke part , i hope
he can recover form that groin pian . he is young and will recover most likely very well . The key is not pushing too hard tonight
the pain is from lugging those gigantic cojones around
17.30 split? Yah, I think he’ll be okay
Pretty sure he could find thousands of volunteers to give him a rub down from the comments here.
I hope they don’t need Dressel for breast in the 200 MR
He could have 2 broken legs and still do awesome!
45 06 for held, Switkoski 45.09
