Multi-talented Cal junior Andrew Seliskar has opted for the 200 IM, 400 IM and 200 breast at 2018 NCAAs, bowing out of the 200 free and 200 fly, among others.
That’s not a huge surprise, but does change up the top NCAA ranks in several of those events. Seliskar swam the 200 IM, 400 IM and 200 fly last year. He was 6th in the 200 fly, but will give that event up for the 200 breast on day 4. The 200 fly is a pretty loaded event nationally, even with 2017 champ Jack Conger graduated. Seliskar’s teammate Zheng Quah is the top returner, with Olympic champ Joseph Schooling also in the mix along with top seed Vini Lanza of Indiana.
The 200 breast, meanwhile, is pretty wide open with American record-setter Will Licon graduated. Seliskar is the second seed behind IU’s Ian Finnerty, who has added significant time at NCAAs in each of the past two seasons.
Seliskar has the nation’s fourth-fastest 200 free time this year (1:32.12), but it never seemed likely he’d pick that over the 400 IM, where he was second last year and is the top returning swimmer.

Looking at headline articles currently on SS. You’ve got Schooling, Dressel, Murphy all Bolles, (yes I know Dressel didn’t go to school there) vs Ledecky, Shebot Seliskar all NCAP. Which trio scores more NCAA points career (if Ledecky swims 4 years) ?
Any more dominate trios from same clubs? Caulking, Caulkins, Pennington comes to mind. I’m sure there are others. Santa Clara glory years? MVN?
I think NCAP kids were same graduating class with Ledecky taking a gap year before college.

The glory years of Santa Clara, Mission Viejo, and Arden Hills were before women’s college swimming really exploded (and in some cases existed at all), but those teams would have been without peer.
Hugo Gonzalez is his competition in the IMs. Both Andrew and Hugo are good in all the strokes.
Selskar has a chance at an NCAA individual title. He’ll have to beat his Pac-12 times to do it.
