Ian Finnerty Talks 100 Breast Time Drop & Multifaceted Training

2018 MEN’S B1G CHAMPIONSHIPS

Indiana University’s Ian Finnerty has had a pretty great meet so far at the Men’s 2018 Big Ten Championships.

In Friday morning prelims Finnerty dropped a 50.82 in the 100 breaststroke to sneak under the pool record, formerly held by Damir Dugonjic of Cal from 2011, as well as shatter his own meet record of 51.38 from 2017.

Finnerty showcased his range and versatility Wednesday night by contributing a 1:33.31 split on IU’s champion 800 freestyle relay. Only about 30 minutes prior to that, Finnerty delivered a 23.50 split in the 50 breaststroke on Indiana’s 200 medley relay, which also won gold. On Thursday Finnerty put up a 1:42.94 in the 200 IM, tying for 4th with Michigan’s Tommy Cope.

Saturday night Finnerty will race the 200 breast in a loaded field including Minnesota’s Conner McHugh and a group of four Michigan swimmers: Jacob MontagueTommy Cope, Jeremy Babinet, and Charlie Swanson.
