The Naval Academy is well on their way toward winning more Patriot League hardware – which would make 15 straight for the men and 7 straight for the women. The Midshipmen swept the first day’s events, including the men’s 3-meter diving.
The biggest drops of the day came in the 800 free relays. In the women’s race, Navy finished in 7:10.63, anchored by junior Lauren Barber in 1:45.88 – the fastest split of the field. That was a 9-second improvement on their previous season best. All 10 relays dropped times, save for Army, including an 18-plus second drop from Lehigh for 2nd place in 7:12.04. That breaks the Lehigh School Record of 7:17.41, set last season with 3 of the 4 same legs, plus the addition of freshman Ann Foley on the leadoff.
The Navy men also had a big drop to win, touching in 6:26.15 – their best time of the year by more than 5 seconds. They were anchored by Ethan Whitaker, who split 1:35.70 to turn a dead heat into a comfortable win over the last 200 yards. The Army West Point men had a similar drop. but couldn’t match Whitaker’s anchor and finished 2nd in 6:28.61. That broke their school record by 3 seconds.
The day’s lone diving event, the men’s 3-meter final, was won by Navy’s Bradley Buchter with a score of 405.35. Navy finished 1-2-4 in the event.
