Japanese Swimmer Yasuhiro Koseki Suspended For Alleged Altercation

According to Asian news sources Mainichi and Yomiuri , 25-year-old swimmer Yasuhiro Koseki has been suspended from the Japanese national team due to an alleged altercation with a fellow teammate.

Per reports, while at the Miki House team training camp in Spain November and December last year, Koseki allegedly hit a 23-year-old victim in the abdomen and chin after ‘becoming enraged because the younger teammate played soccer after a training session.’ (Mainichi)

The victim’s name has been withheld, but had gone to the hospital with no broken bones resulting from the incident.

Koseki apologized to his teammate, however, the Miki House team is banning the Rio Olympic finalist from competing through March of this year. His salary is also reportedly being withheld.

The breaststroke specialist was the 2017 World Championships silver medalist in the 200m race in Budapest and holds his nation’s short course meters records in the 50m and 100m distances.  He was also a 4-time medalist at the 2014 Asian Games.

Koseki most likely would have competed at the upcoming Kosuke Kitajima Cup and Konami Open events taking place later this month in Japan.
