Edina Swim Club Supports Scholarships For Puerto Rican Swimmers

Press Release courtesy of Edina Swim Club

Hurricane Maria recently devastated the island of Puerto Rico and spared nothing in its path, including the many swim clubs located on the island.  Swim clubs are currently providing an important source of community, support, and normalcy for young swimmers across the island, but many of these clubs are facing significant challenges.  Over 80% of the island is still without power, and there is only one operational pool on the island.  It will likely be several months before any additional pools are functional.  Clubs are keeping their teams together through whatever open water swimming and dry land they can manage to do.  The impact of Hurricane Maria has caused many swim families to be unable to afford swim club dues, and they will likely have to pull their swimmers from the teams that play such a vital part of their lives and their recovery.

The Edina Swim Club is proud to adopt the Streamline Swim Academy Team as a partner club and to lead an effort to help Streamline recover from the destruction caused by Hurricane Maria.  We would like to invite you to join us in supporting the Streamline team.  Streamline has over 200 swimmers, and many families were severely impacted by the hurricane, including significant personal property losses and unemployment.  The Streamline team is working hard to keep their club community together and to support each other during this challenging time, however, the financial hardships resulting from Hurricane Maria have caused many families on the team to be unable to afford continued participation on the team.  We would like to adopt as many swimmers as we can and to cover their dues for the coming year.  We want to provide these families the chance to focus on their personal recovery, while allowing their young swimmers the opportunity to remain part of the Streamline family and to return to a sense of normal as quickly as possible.  We are asking for the help of the global swimming community in supporting the Streamline swimmers.     Please join us in helping these families feel the support of their global swimming family by making a donation to sponsor a Streamline swimmer.  https://www.teamunify.com/TUMoney.jsp?team=mnedi  All funds raised will go directly to the Streamline scholarship fund.  Streamline’s motto is Believe in Miracles – let’s help them do just that!
