Rider University senior Zack Molloy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River HS North) of the men’s swimming and diving team was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men’s Swimmer of the Week as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.
Molloy becomes the second Bronc to earn weekly accolades this season after sophomore Justin Carey (Landenberg, PA/Avon Grove) was tabbed as the swimmer of the week twice in the past month. It marked the ninth time in his career that he has picked up weekly honors, thanks to receiving the distinction three times as a freshman, three times as a sophomore and twice as a junior.
“Zack is transitioning rapidly from his summer training into his final NCAA season,” Rider Head Coach Steve Fletcher said. “He worked hard this summer to gain usable strength, and our goal is to convert that strength to pool performance in season. His sprinting is well ahead of previous years, and his power in the pool is going to give him the ability, with rest, to finish his races at his best.”
Molloy had a stellar performance in a dual-meet victory against MAAC foe Marist last week. Molloy was a force in the pool, winning the 200 free with a time of 1:42.42. He also finished first in the 50 free (21.15), 100 free (45.66) and he was part of the 400 free relay that took first. In the 100 free, he broke his own pool record with his time on Saturday. Molloy has set new Coppola Pool records in back-to-back dual meets.
Rider returns to action on Saturday, November 11, with a road meet versus Delaware and La Salle in Philadelphia.
