Senior diver Travis Wright won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events and fellow senior Rebecca Anthone took first in the 500, 200, and 50 free events, to lead Caniusius to a sweep of the University of Rochester Saturday afternoon at the Burt Flickinger Center.

The Golden Griffins posted a 195-100 victory over the Yellowjackets in the men’s competition, and the home team scored a 182-116 win in the women’s event.

Wright, the defending MAAC Diving champion, took top honors in the 1-meter event with a score of 312.15, and then posted a 343.58 to secure the win on the 3-meter board. The Canisius women’s diving team was led byVivian Mroz and Gianna Cornelia, who also took home two first-place finishes of their own. Mroz won the 3-meter event with a score of 246.68 and Cornelia posted a 258.98 to win the 1-meter event. Fellow divers Bret Palo andJosh Larcom, also earned NCAA Zone-A qualifications.

Anthone earned three victories on the day, as she paced the field in the 500-free with a time of 5:17.96, took the 200-free with a time of 1:56.43, and claimed the 50-free with a pace of 24.60. Cassie Brousseau earned two top finishes on the day in the 100-backstroke (1:01.23) and the 200-backstroke (2:06.54).Maddy Chapin took home two first- place finishes on the day in the 200-fly (2:11.84) and the 100-fly (59.96).

In the men’s event, senior Daniel Dirrigl won both the 100-butterfly (50.90) and 200-butterfly (1:56.41). Freshman Lucas Kennedy also produced a top notch performance, earning victories in the 100-breaststroke (59.37) and 200-breaststroke (2:11.46) events. Greg Staebell placed first in two events for the Griffs, winning the 100-back (53:17) and the 200-back (1:55.67).

Both the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams return to action Oct. 28, when the Griffs face-off against Geneseo. That event will be held at the Burt Flickinger Center pool in downtown Buffalo.
