Competition at the 2017 World University Games continued with day 3 finals in Taipei. Tonight, we saw swimmers compete for medals in the men’s mile, men’s 200 free, women’s 100 breast, women’s 100 free and men’s 200 IM. For a full recap of the day 3 finals events, click here.
Japan made big moves in the medal table on day 3, as they’re now tied with the USA as the leaders in the gold medal count with 3 golds. In terms of total medals, the Japanese now trail the USA (8) by just one medal, bringing their number up from 3 to 7 with their performances tonight. In the women’s 100 breast, Kanako Watanabe and Reona Aoki put together a 1-2 punch. Kosuke Hagino and Daiya Seto followed that up with another gold and silver combo for Japan in the 200 IM.
Earning their first medals today were Hong Kong (Siobhan Haughey – women’s 100 free gold), Hungary (Gergely Gyurta – men’s 1500 free bronze) and Poland (Kacper Majchrzak – men’s 200 free silver).
