UC Santa Cruz has made three new head coaching hires in its NCAA Division III program.
Lauren Nadler will become the new head coach for women’s soccer. She has been the assistant coach in the women’s soccer program since fall 2015. She brings several years of coaching experience from campuses including Massachusetts Institute of Technology, City College of San Francisco, and Dominican University of California.
David Klech has been named the new head coach for men’s and women’s track and field and cross country. He has served as the assistant coach in the program since 2016. He coached at Acalanes High School and also served as a volunteer assistant coach at his alma mater, the University of Oregon, where he was an All-American in track and field.
The new men’s and women’s swim and dive head coach will be Matt Nauman. Nauman, who is also a UC Santa Cruz alum, has been an assistant coach with the program since 2010. He has also coached with the Cabrillo Threshers and Aptos Cabrillo Swim Club.
Interim Athletics Director Greg Warzecka praised the new hires.
“I believe these are three strong coaches who will continue to build upon these already successful programs and lead the Slugs to a bright future,” he said.

Greg Warzecka was responsible for cutting UC Davis Men’s Swimming. As well as three other sports. He is a corrupt, incompetent, fool. He was fired from UC Davis within a couple of years along with almost every AD that was involved in the decision. I’m not sure if he was involved in the restructuring at UC Santa Cruz, but given his past I wouldn’t be surprised if he was.
Congrats to Matt Nauman on the new position. Sorry to see Kim go down like that though. Matt swam for Kim so I am sure it’s not an easy situation for anyone.
It’s definitely going in the wrong direction. The guy promoted 3assistants to the head coaching jobs so my first guess was he ran off the head coaches and replaced them with the lower paid assistants
You nailed it on the head. The head coaches were given their walking papers. Some had only 2 days notice. This all happened after the head coaches along with the student body put a vote to provide funds for athletics through student fees. It looks like payback from the administration for securing an NCAA athletic program for UC Santa Cruz
Kind of a hatchet job, if you research the recent UCSC restructuring of athletics.
Kim’s a great guy and excellent coach; he got screwed.
