Pleasanton Seahawks’ Lleyton Plattel, the youngest competitor in the distance events in Indianapolis, has gone the #2 time in 13-14 history in the 800 free. Winning heat 2 of the men’s 800 this afternoon, Plattel posted an 8:09.74, taking more than seven seconds off of his previous PR.
The 14-year-old was out in 4:03.70, then came home in 4:06.04 for his final time of 8:09.74.
Plattel’s previous best was an 8:16.94 from April of this year. That time had him ranked fourth all-time in the 13-14 age group.

Plattel has had an outstanding few races here in Indy at the 2017 U.S. Worlds Trials. He became the 2nd-fastest swimmer all-time in the 13-14 1500 free on the first day of competition, going a lifetime best 15:35.36 which was within five seconds of Jesse Vassallo’s 13-14 NAG record. Vassallo’s record dates back to 1976.
Plattel now ranks #2 all-time in both the 800 free and 1500 free for the 13-14 age group.
