Redlands East Valley Girls, Redlands Boys Take Citrus Belt Titles

On Friday the 2017 Citrus Belt League Finals were held in Yucaipa, California at the Crafton Hills College pool. The Citrus Belt League is a high school league in the Inland Empire region of California’s CIF Southern Section.

Redlands and Redlands East Valley High School went head-to-head for the team titles, with the Redlands boys and the Redlands East Valley girls walking away with titles. In the combined race, Redlands prevailed by a mere 1.5 points, despite East Valley winning 12 of the 16 individual events.

Girls Meet

On the girls side, Redlands East Valley dominated winning every event on the schedule. Liberty Williams and Autumn D’Arcy led the way for the Wildcats, collecting two individual wins each and were both on the winning 200 and 400 free relays. Williams won the 200 and 500 frees, both in decisive fashion, clocking 1:51.35 and 4:49.63 respectively. D’Arcy came out on top in the 200 IM (2:03.63) and the 100 free (51.76), dominating in both as well.

Other impressive wins for the Wildcats came from Sydney Benveniste in the 100 fly, winning by over four seconds in 55.92, and Sam Nickell in the 100 back who also won by more than four seconds (57.87).

The highest point scorers for the runner-up Redlands Terriers were Tori Padilla (39), who took 3rd in the 50 free and 4th in the 100 fly, and Maddie Montano (38) who took 3rd in the 100 back and 5th in the 200 IM. Citrus Valley, who took 3rd, had two girls score 40-plus points with Kaylee Ramos placing 2nd in the 100 back and 3rd in the 100 fly, and Melanie Gonzalez (40) who took 2nd in the 100 fly and 4th in the 50 free.

Boys Meet

In the boys meet Redlands swept the relays and won three of the individual events to outscore East Valley by 150 points. The three individual winners for the Terriers all collected 44 points with a win and a third place finish. Sofiane Dissem won the 50 free in 21.72 and added a 3rd in the 100 breast. Yousef Hassen won the 100 free in 48.04 and took 3rd in the 50, and Daniel Pry was victorious in the 100 back and added a 3rd in the 200 IM.

The only double winner for the boys was Benji Duenas, who won the 200 IM (1:54.85) and 100 fly (51.87) for Redlands East Valley. Daniel Precie and Jude Williams also had strong showings for the Wildcats with 45 points each, including wins in the 200 free for Precie and 500 free for Williams.

The lone event winner of the entire meet not from Redlands or Redlands East Valley was Citrus Valley’s Talon Weck, who won the boys 100 breast (59.57) and finished as the runner-up in the 50 free (21.89).
