Watch: Ronald Dalmacio Lowers Own 11-12 100 Back NAG In 59.43

On the final night of the Fran Crippen Memorial Meet of Champions held in Irvine, 12-year-old Ronald Dalmacio lowered his own 11-12 National Age Group Record in the 100m backstroke, a record he had set just a week prior at a home meet in Pasadena.

Dalmacio qualified for the B-final Sunday morning in a time of 1:01.30, but when finals rolled around he managed a significant drop. He came in at 59.43 to win the B-final, breaking his record from last weekend of 59.54. His swim would have also placed 5th in the A-final, full of swimmers anywhere between four years older than him and double his age.

About a month ago Dalmacio became the youngest person to ever crack the 1:00 barrier in the LC 100 back when he went 59.98. At the meet last weekend he not only broke the 100 back record, but added the 50 and 200 back with times of 27.45 and 2:10.01. In the 50 he lowered his own record of 27.88, while the 200 was his first time breaking the record previously held by Destin Lasco (2:10.39). He narrowly missed becoming the youngest ever under the 2:10 barrier.

At the meet this weekend Dalmacio also competed in the 200 free and 50 free, clocking 2:03.53 and 25.45 respectively.

Not true, tech suits are illegal at all meets for 10 and unders and at Age Group meets for all ages. Given that Dalmacio is 12, and SMOC isn’t an Age Group meet, he could have worn a tech suit had he wanted. That being said, he made wearing one seem unnecessary with this swim!
