University of Kentucky senior Danielle Galyer had a 4.0 cumulative GPA at last year’s NCAA Division I Championships, and a year later her perfect GPA remains in tact. On Thursday, Galyer was named the NCAA Elite 90 Award winner for the second-straight season, meaning that she had the highest GPA of all athletes who advanced to compete at the NCAA Championship’s final site. She’s the first Division I swimmer to repeat as the Elite 90 Award winner.
Last year, Galyer added a 200 backstroke individual title to her resume later in the meet. She’ll try and add that double to her resume as well on Saturday, where she enters as the 10th seed.
The University of Kentucky has now won this award, across their athletics programs, for 5 straight season and won the award 6 total times since it was inaugurated in the 2009-2010 school year.
The honor is given annually to the athlete at each of the NCAA’s 90 sponsored championship final sites who has the highest GPA. Ties are broken by the number of credit hours completed, and athletes must be sophomores or above who have competed in their sport for at least two years with their school.
Galyer is double majoring in psychology and political science and plans to attend law school after graduation.
