An unshaved Ryan Held shredded his way to a new ACC Record on night 2 of the 2017 Men’s ACC Championships. Held secured the victory for the Wolfpack with a lifetime best 18.68, clearing the former Conference Record of 18.76 set by former teammate Simonas Bilis at last season’s conference meet.
Held now moves up to 2nd in the nation this season behind only Caeleb Dressel‘s 18.46 from the 2017 SEC Championships a couple of weeks ago. He moved just ahead of Texas’ Joseph Schooling, who blasted an 18.76 for a new Big 12 Record last weekend.
Held now moves from outside the top 20 to 7th on the all time top performers list. He’s just 2 hundredths behind Nathan Adrian, who sits 6th with an 18.66 from the 2011 Minneapolis Grand Prix.

I think Caeleb Dressel has that idea in mind but is it just humanly possible?
Interesting to see Held improve like that in SCY. I consider him more as a long course swimmer so it bodes well for his summer.
And his best distance is the 100 free. Based on that 50 free speed, a sub 41 in the 100 free doesn’t look out of reach.
Dressel is still well ahead in yards but at least he has found someone to bother him a little bit.

Big boy. Training sessions would consist of 1RM bench, then dive 25s on the 15 minutes.
Funny how Dressel has made 18.6 seem almost pedestrian. Great accomplishment for Held. Who knows, maybe he can even become the second fastest ever in a few weeks.

Held will definitely medal. But I’m sorry, barring disaster, Dressel will take it.
That is faster than most swimmers are able to go.

It was an FS Pro. If I remember right, I think he wore 2 suits or a leg skin underneath the body suit for more buoyancy.
