After sweeping North Carolina and Virginia over the weekend, two from the NC State swimming and diving program have been awarded weekly honors, as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
Ryan Held was named Co-ACC Male Swimmer of the Week while freshman Ky-Lee Perry earned ACC Female Swimmer of the Week honors. This marks the second time that the Wolfpack has swept the awards this season.
Held contributed 29 points against North Carolina and 30 points against Virginia en route to winning six events. On Friday, the Springfield, Ill., native posted a pool record time of 47.08 in the 100 butterfly. In the 200 medley relay, he broke the 19-second barrier, splitting 18.94 during the free leg.
On Saturday, Held swept his events once again, winning two individual events as well as leading off the 200 freestyle relay, which dominated the field. The junior won both the 100 free and 200 free by over a second, recording times of 42.77 and 1:35.66, respectively. In the relay Held led the team off with a 19.34 split.
This is Held’s second time tabbing the award this season.
On the women’s side, Perry earned her first ACC honor after winning seven events over the weekend, four of which were individual performances. The freshman played a significant role in the Wolfpack’s upset against the reigning ACC champions and fifth-ranked Virginia, scoring 40 points for the team.
The Newark, Conn., native swam the 50 and 100 free during both days of competition, posting her fastest times on Saturday’s dual against Virginia (22.46 and 48.96).
Throughout the weekend, Perry broke the pool record in the 50 free three times, ultimately settling at 22.23 during the lead off leg in the 200 free relay, which earned a NCAA ‘A’ cut with a time of 1:28.77. Her 50 free time currently places her at No. 2 in the ACC and No. 20 nationally.
