The Omaha swimming & diving team closed out the regular season Saturday afternoon, taking down conference foe South Dakota in a dual meet, 158.5-141.5, at the DakotaDome Pool.
Omaha got off to a sluggish start, as the Mavericks recorded just one win in the first seven events. Sophomore Kylie Vermeire claimed the 800 free victory with a time of 9:18.81.
Senior Morgan Stepp then took over the meet starting in the 200 fly, recording the individual win with a time of 2:22.23. She later swam to victories in the 200 breast (2:41.78) and the 400 IM (5:02.20) to pace Omaha the rest of the way.
Juniors Cassie Jahn and Olivia McLain added individual victories, helping pad Omaha’s decisive second-half performance. Jahn raced to first place in the 100 free (1:00.40), while McLain grinded out the win the 100 fly (1:05.33).
Vermeire followed suit in the second half of the race, as the Marshall, Minn., product claimed her second individual victory of the afternoon in the 400 free (4:32.27).
Omaha heads to the Summit League Championships Feb. 15-18 in Indianapolis, Ind. Qualified swimmers will compete at IU Natatorium for a chance to advance to the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships.
