The Iowa State swimming and diving team defeated Northern Iowa, 188-110, Saturday afternoon at Beyer Pool. The Cyclones’ win improved their record against the Panthers to 30-1 all-time.
The meet was the final home contest of the year for the Cyclones, who honored their senior class of seven swimmers and divers prior to the start of the meet. The class consists of Megan Childs, Julie Dickinson, Brooke Evensen, Kenzie Goudreau, Maddie Rastall
, Becky Stochland Savanna Townsend.
Iowa State wasted no time picking up where it left off last weekend, taking first place in the meet’s first eight events.
The meet opened with a first-place finish from Kasey Roberts, Danica Delaquis, Harper Emswiler and Laura Miksch in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:45.53.
Iowa State then swept the next two events, led by Jessi Storer in the 1000 freestyle (10:31.19) and Keely Soellner in the 200 freestyle (1:53.49). Soellner’s win was made even more impressive due to having taken second place in the 1000 freestyle just a few minutes earlier.
Roberts picked up her first ‘W’ of the day in an individual event with a time of 57.18 in the 100 backstroke. Haley Ruegemer swam to a time of 2:09.81 in the 200 butterfly to take first, followed by Laura Miksch‘s 50 freestyle swim of 24.03.
After winning the first seven events of the day, the Cyclones held a 97-33 lead going into the first diving break.
Iowa State’s senior divers led the way on the three-meter board. Julie Dickinson claimed first place on the three-meter board with a score of 301.05, while Becky Stochltook second with 266.60 points. Dickinson and Stochl also placed 1-2 on the one-meter board later in the meet, scoring 302.40 points and 266.10 points, respectively.
The Cyclones’ streak of eight wins to open the meet came to a halt in the 100 freestyle when UNI’s Molly Lembezeder took the top spot. Maddie Rastall led the way for Iowa State with a time of 53.02.
Roberts and Soellner both picked up another individual win, coming in the 200 breaststroke and 500 freestyle races, respectively.
The Cyclones punctuated the day with a 400 freestyle relay win led by a trio of seniors. The group of Soellner, Rastall, Townsend and Evensen touched in 3:32.59 for the win and to cap Iowa State’s final home meet of the season.

The Cyclones conclude their season-ending stretch of four meets in four-straight weekends with a trip to Lawrence, Kansas, to face the Kansas Jayhawks. The meet will be split into two nights to simulate the quick day-to-day turnarounds the teams will have to face at the 2017 Big 12 Championship later in February.
The first half of the meet will begin at 6 p.m. on Feb. 3, with the last half scheduled for 10 a.m. on Feb. 4. Both halves of the meet will take place at Robinson Natatorium on the campus of Kansas University.
