Rutgers swimming and diving concludes its home schedule when it hosts Richmond on Saturday at 10 a.m. ET at the RU Aquatics Center.
Saturday morning’s dual is Senior Day, as the program will honor its five graduating Scarlet Knights – Chantal Asselin, Alyssa Black, Barbra Brottman, Meghan Kielyand Rachel Stoddard – prior to the meet. The ceremony begins at 9:40 a.m.
Saturday Promotions
Fans who attend Saturday’s meet will receive Block R swim caps. Those in attendance will also be able to pick up Block R magnets and promotional schedules.
Last Time Out
RU collected seven event titles, including two individual wins from Stoddard, during its tri-meet with Cincinnati and Virginia Tech Jan. 20-21 in Christiansburg, Virginia. In dual action, Rutgers defeated the Bearcats, 223-130, but fell to the Hokies, 191-157.
Stoddard just missed a NCAA B cut in the 100 breaststroke with her first-place time of 1:02.92, and recorded a first-place finish in the 200 breaststroke at 2:18.16. The Hillsborough, New Jersey, native also helped the Scarlet Knights secure a win in the 400 medley relay along with sophomore Vera Koprivova, sophomore Francesca Stoppa and freshman Alexandra Fabugais-Inaba with a time of 3:46.85.
Other individual winners in the pool included Koprivova in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:59.37 and Stoppa in the 200 butterfly with her result of 2:02.65.
Off the boards, reigning Big Ten Diver of the WeekAddison Walkowiak added a NCAA Zone qualifying mark of 331.90 to place first in the 3-meter dive. Black finished first in the 1-meter dive with a mark of 303.65, also an NCAA Zone mark.
Scouting Richmond
The Spiders enter Saturday’s meet after competing in a tri-meet with La Salle and Fordham on Jan. 21. Richmond defeated the Pioneers, 210-89, but fell to the Rams, 153-146.
Virginia Marsh was named Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week for her performances over the weekend. Marsh captured a pair of individual wins during the tri-meet, hitting the wall first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:51.96 and in the 50 freestyle at 24.65.
Teammates Hannah Gouger and Morgan Soulia also joined Marsh with two victories last Saturday. Gouger collected wins in the 100 and 200 backstroke events, while Soulia won the 100 breaststroke and the 200 IM.
Eleventh-year head coach Matt Barany leads Richmond.
