“The win today was a complete team effort,” said UNCW Head Coach Jason Memont. “We got off to a slow start after getting off the bus, but came back with a string of wins from the 100 back thru the first diving break and never looked back. It was great to see the team respond to a challenge like that and fight to come back. We had event winners from our freshmen all the way up through seniors, including three great wins from Will Ryan on a day that he wasn’t at his best. Our divers also aided in the win with some season best scores, including a few zone qualifying scores. We hadn’t competed in a long time so it was nice to get back in the pool and race after so much hard training. We are coming together at just the right time and I’m excited to get back in next week and race in front of our home crowd.”
Ryan posted wins in the 100 and 200 Breaststrokes and also added a victory in the 400 IM and swam a leg on UNCW’s meet opening win in the 4×50 Free Relay. Adding multiple event wins for UNCW were Tad Spence (100 and 200 Backstrokes, 4×50 Free Relay) and Connor Forsythe (100 and 200 Butterflies).
Lowe posted a score of 272.03 in the 1-meter for the win and later totaled 311.40 points for the win in the 3-meter board. Sprinter Meghan Lahr captured wins in the 50 and 100 Freestyles.
UNCW returns to action on Jan. 21 when they host UNC Asheville and Gardner-Webb. The meet begins at 11 a.m.
