Ryan Hakes of Green Bay, Wisconsin has made a verbal commitment to in-state University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee for the 2017-18 season. Hakes is a 100/200 freestyle specialist who swims for Bay Port High School and Green Bay YMCA. After his freshman year of high school Hakes qualified for YMCA National Championships, where he has competed in the 50/100/200 free, 100 back, and 100 fly in short course season, and in the 50/100/200 free in long course season.
At the 2016 Wisconsin Boys Division 1 State Championships Hakes finished 13th in the 200 free and 19th in the 100 free. He has had an outstanding past 12 months, improving across the board in both LCM and SCY. Most recently he went PBs in the 50/100y free, 50y back, and 100y fly at the 2016 Fall Western Great Lakes Open.
His best SCY times include:
- 200 free – 1:44.98
- 100 free – 47.85
- 50 free – 22.14
Hakes will be joined by fellow commits Andy Grever, Colin Duffy, and Jasper Appleton in the Panthers’ class of 2021.
