Tennessee State Champion Sprinter Christian Berry Commits to Princeton

Memphis, Tennessee-native Christian Berry has verbally committed to the application process at Princeton University.* Berry is a two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American who attends Memphis University School.

“Princeton offers me the ability to swim on a nationally competitive, Ivy League championship team under the leadership of two great coaches, Rob Orr and Mike Joyce. I am grateful for the opportunity to be on a team with outstanding guys and to study at one of the top universities in the world.”

Berry won the state title in the 50 free (20.48) at the 2016 TISCA Tennessee High School Swimming and Diving Championships last February. He also placed fourth in the 100 free (45.22), led off the runner-up MUC 200 free relay (20.69), and swam a leg (44.61) on the state record-setting 400 free relay, contributing to MUC’s State Championship team title and earning team high point honors.

Berry swims year-round for Memphis Thunder Aquatic Club. He is a six-time All-American and has been a finalist at both Summer Junior Nationals and Winter Junior Nationals. His best times include:

• 50 free – 20.42 (SCY) / 23.70 (LCM)
• 100 free – 45.18 (SCY) / 52.39 (LCM)
• 200 free – 1:40.56 (SCY) / 1:56.51 (LCM)

Fellow commits Arthur Markley, Corey Lau, Levy Nathan, and Sam Tarter are scheduled to join Berry at DeNunzio Pool in the Princeton University class of 2021.
