Vaitkus had a breakout sophomore year of high school, going 24.04 in the 50 free from a flat start and anchoring the Munster 200 medley relay, which earned NISCA All-American honors, in 23.80. At the 2015 IHSAA Girls Swimming/Diving Championship that same season, she qualified for the 50 free and finished 22nd in prelims, and swam on the 200 medley and 200 free relays, both of which made finals at the state meet. In May 2016 Vaitkus swam at the Lithuanian National Championships (“Atviras Lietuvos plaukimo čempionatas”), where she went by far her best times in long course meters. She placed eighth overall in the 50m free after coming in with the 22nd-fastest seed time. She competed in heats, semi-finals and finals; her best swim was in semi-finals, where she was seventh with 27.80. In the 100 free she was seeded 27th and came in tenth in heats with a PB of 1:01.07. She also swam the 400 free, where she entered with the 11th-fastest seed time and dropped 9 seconds to finish eighth with 4:51.40.

Her top SCY times are:

  • 50 free – 24.04
  • 100 free – 53.20
  • 200 free – 2:02.42
