Women’s Highlights:
- Florida International’s Kyna Pereira won the 1650 free (16:26.04) for one of the few events not won by a Cardinal swimmer.
- For Louisville, sophomore Alina Kendzior won the 200 back in 1:53.61, freshman Casey Fanz won the 100 free (49.23) and Abbie Houck won the 200 fly (1:56.82).
- Breaststroke ace Andee Cottrell continued to look sharp, winning the 200 breast in 2:08.25, less than a second away from the A-cut standard.
- In the 400 free relay, the Cardinals did register another NCAA automatic qualifying time in 3:14.23. Mallory Comerford (47.59) and Fanz (47.60) both split sub 48-second legs.
Men’s Highlights:
- Sophomore Marcelo Acosta won the mile by nearly 26 seconds over teammate Jake Schultz. Acosta’s time of 14:47.79 is good enough for second in the NCAA behind only NC State’s Anton Ipsen (14:39.63).
- Senior Cardinal Aaron Greene won the 200 back by nearly 5 seconds with a 1:43.30.
- Other individual wins from the Louisville men came at the hands of freshmen Andrej Barna in the 100 free (44.01) and Etay Gurevich in the 200 fly (1:44.49).
- Louisville’s Carlo Claverie blasted a 1:53.32 in the 200 breast, which puts him less than four-tenths of a second shy of the A-cut time.
- The Cardinals ended the meet on a high note in the 400 free relay. Their time of 2:52.14 is currently ranked third in the NCAA behind SEC teams Alabama and Florida. Three out of four swimmers went under 43 seconds—Matthias Lindenbauer (42.96), Grigory Tarasevich (42.80) and Trevor Carroll (42.95).
