In-State Distance Freestyler Will Anderson Chooses Gardner-Webb

Will Anderson of Gastonia, North Carolina has decided to remain in-state and has made a commitment to Gardner-Webb University for 2017-18. “As soon as I set foot on the campus I knew I was home. Can’t wait to be a Bulldog!”

Anderson is a senior at North Gaston High School. He earned a pair of fourths in the 200 free (1:45.09) and 500 free (4:44.85) at the 2016 North Carolina 3A State Championships, scoring enough points to give the North Gaston boys’ team a 23rd-place finish. Anderson swims year-round with Gaston Gators. He is a USA Swimming Futures Championships qualifier and a Southern Zone finalist.

Anderson excels along the full range of freestyle distances. At the Southern Zone Age Group Championships this summer he was an A finalist in the 50/100m free and a B finalist in the 200/400m free. At the North Carolina Long Course Senior Championship two weeks earlier, he had done better in the 200/400/800 free than in the shorter end of the range. His top SCY times are:

  • 1000 free – 9:48.77
  • 500 free – 4:44.29
  • 200 free – 1:45.09
  • 100 free – 48.49
  • 50 free – 22.24

Anderson will join the Gardner-Webb University class of 2021 with fellow commit Eli Coan.
