CIF-SS D1 100 Breast Champ Kaila Wong Verbally Commits to Alabama

Kaila Wong, a two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American from Valencia, California, has made a verbal commitment to swim for the University of Alabama in the fall. Wong was the 100 breast champion at the 2016 CIF-Southern Section Division I Championships last fall, edging the field in a tight race that saw the top four finishers come in under 1:03. Wong won with a personal-best 1:02.30, fully .41 faster than her previous PB. Wong also placed 13th in the 100 fly (57.03), swam a 28.70 breast on Valencia’s 200 medley relay, and split 23.64 in the middle of their 200 free relay.

Wong swims year-round for Canyons Aquatics Club. She has tended to have more success in short course yards than in long course meters, but she updated her PBs this summer in the 50/100m free, 100m breast, 100m fly, and 200m IM. Her best SCY times are:

  • 100 breast – 1.02.30
  • 50 free – 23.80
  • 100 fly – 56.98

Wong will join fellow commits Bean Faunce, Kathryn Nicholson, Lydia Jackson, Maria Reed, and Sydney Dawson in the University of Alabama class of 2021.
