WATCH: Therese Alshammar’s Final Career Race at Swedish SC Nats

2016 SWEDISH SHORT COURSE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

This summer at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, Swedish sprinter Therese Alshammar accomplished a historic feat by competing in her 6th Olympics. A few months later, she swam her final race at the 2016 Swedish Short Course National Championships. Alshammar closed out her career in the women’s 50 freestyle. She fell short of the win, but still picked up one last medal, taking 2nd behind Nathalie Lindborg.

Also headlining the meet was 100 fly World Record holder and Olympic champion Sarah Sjostrom, who won 5 golds. On her way to victory in the 100 IM, she took down the Swedish National Record that previously belonged to Alshammar.

On the men’s side, Victor Johansson put up a handful of highlight swims. In the 800 free and 1500 free, he won gold with a new Swedish Record and Swedish Junior Record. He also set a new Swedish Junior Recordin the 400 free.

Check out the action below, where you can watch Alshammar’s last race, as well as the record-setting swims by Sjostrom and Johansson.
