The 43rd Trofeo Nico Sapio took place this week in Genoa, Italy.
Matthew Josa started things off for the Americans, he took gold in the 100m butterfly event with a time of 50.99, following him on the podium was Germany’s Marius Kusch and Brazil’s Fernando Da Silva with times of 51.89 and 52.61, respectively. Come the spring semester, Josa will continue his NCAA stint at Cal.
Italian Lorenzo Mora narrowly took gold in the 100m backstroke with a time of 51.47, while 2016 Olympian and Cal swimmer Jacob Pebley claimed silver at 51.71.
On the women’s side, the 100m freestyle win was taken by French mainstay Charlotte Bonnet with a time of 53.15, Italian Erika Ferraioli claimed silver in 54.36 and American Madison Kennedy took bronze in 54.81.
